Complete arrangements for monsoon disaster management soon: CM

State to send proposal to centre for air ambulance shortly

The process of issuing death certificates for those missing in the Raini disaster which occurred in Chamoli district in February should be expedited so that the affected families can be provided the ex-gratia soon. Further, the state government will soon submit a proposal to the central government for an air ambulance considering disaster management. Apart from this, all preparations related to disaster mitigation and management for the coming monsoon season should be completed soon. Stating this while chairing a video conference with disaster management officials here on Saturday, chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat said that a disaster management research institute will be established in the state. The CM said that teams should be formed up to the Nyay Panchayat level and disaster management equipment should be provided to these. All the district magistrates should maintain information sources till the village level and the list of public representatives and personnel down to the village level should be updated, he said.

Addressing the officials, the CM said that the Doppler radar at Surkanda should be made operational soon while the process should be expedited for the one to be established at Lansdowne. He stressed on the need for special focus on what more can be done in remote areas. Rawat further said that arrangements will be made to train masons in the construction of earthquake resistant buildings, said the CM.

The State minister for disaster management and rehabilitation, Dhan Singh Rawat said that soon a national level seminar on disaster management and rehabilitation will be organised in Dehradun. One chapter on disaster management is being started in all the universities of the state while a six-month certificate course on disaster management is also being started. Seminars will be held in Garhwal and Kumaon on disaster management for members of Mahila Mangal Dal, Yuvak Mangal Dal and village watchmen. A work plan is also being prepared to provide motorcycle ambulances to Lekhpals, added the minister.

Disaster management secretary SA Murugeshan, finance secretary Sowjanya, Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority additional CEO Riddhim Agarwal and district magistrates were among those who attended the video conference.
