Complete installation of crash barriers before Char Dham Yatra: CM

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the district magistrates to identify the accident prone areas on the roads. He directed that an effective work plan should be prepared to prevent accidents on the roads of the State. These directions were given by the CM while chairing the meeting of the State road safety council at the State secretariat on Tuesday.
Expressing annoyance at the slow pace of installation of crash barriers at the identified points on the roads, the CM tersely told the officers that the pending work of crash barrier installation should be done before the start of Char Dham Yatra this year. He said that regular safety audits should be done at the black spots.
The CM warned the officers of work executing agencies that any kind of laxity in the installation of crash barriers will not be tolerated
He said that the arrangement of dormitories for drivers should be made near the parking places in the tourist spots. He said that strict action should be taken on the traffic rule offenders and drunk drivers. Dhami suggested that the short films and documentaries should be made to make the people aware about road safety and it should also be included in the curriculum of the schools.
In the meeting the CM directed the officers to take effective action to prevent encroachment and said that the police, municipal bodies, MDDA and the district administration should take action on encroachments. He said that the integration of the cameras installed by the police and the Transport department for the traffic management should be done.
The officers informed that there are 165 black spots on the roads of the State and rectification of 129 such spots has been done. Work on rectification of 29 black spots is underway. There are 43 such black spots where no accident has occurred after the rectification work. They further informed that 52,000 books on road safety have been provided by the Transport department to the education department.
The chief secretary SS Sandhu, additional chief secretaries Radha Raturi, Anand Bardhan, officiating DGP Abhinav Kumar, secretaries AS Hyanki, Ravinath Raman, HC Semwal, Garhwal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey and others attended the meeting.
