Compulsory retirement for non performing employees of cooperative banks: Secretary

The secretary of Cooperatives, Dilip Jawalkar said that accountability must be established for branch managers and employees of the cooperative banksin the State who are not performing their duties properly. Employees underperforming due to health issues or other reasons will be given compulsory retirement under the Performance for Unwell Employees’ programme. He stated this during a review meeting at the State cooperative bank’s Dehradun camp office on Tuesday. He directed senior bank officers to ensure proper implementation of these measures. He also emphasised the importance of launching modern services like mobile banking and net banking in all the district cooperative banks to enhance customer convenience.
Addressing the issue of rising Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) in the banks, Jawalkar stressed ensuring employee accountability in NPA recovery and issued directives to seek police assistance for this purpose.He also reviewed a presentation by the State Cooperative Bank. The managing director Neeraj Belwal also provided a detailed progress report, informing that currently, 12 out of 15 branches of the State cooperative bank and district cooperative banks are profitable. He also talked about ongoing efforts to recover outstanding loans, resulting in a 4.08 per cent reduction in NPAs.
He also directed the managing director to formulate a sound policy for the Prime Minister’s Cooperative Housing Loan, home loans and cooperative housing loans. He also called for a campaign to attract government employees and corporate clients to open accounts with the cooperative banks. He also expressed concern over the low credit deposit ratio in district cooperative banks and instructed them to improve it. He emphasised the need to ensure that bank services reach more customers without difficulty.
