Conduct awareness campaign against encroachments on waterlogged land and land fraud : DM

The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal has directed sub divisional magistrates and Tehsildars to conduct a comprehensive awareness campaign in urban and rural areas of the district to address the issue of encroachments on waterlogged land and land fraud. The DM has also instructed revenue courts to ensure swift action to expedite pending cases. In a meeting held in the Rishiparna Auditorium at the collectorate on Sunday, Bansal convened the meeting with all SDMs and Tehsildars to discuss issues related to land fraud and encroachments on waterlogged land.
Addressing the officials, he stated, “Illegal encroachments on waterlogged land and land fraud not only cause environmental damage but also misuse the hard-earned money of citizens. A zero-tolerance policy will be adopted in such cases.” He also appealed to the public to report any suspicious activities to the administration and emphasised that public cooperation is vital to make the district secure and fraud-free.
The DM instructed that precise demarcation of waterlogged land should be carried out and the public notified about such areas through official notices. Besides this, a list of all illegal encroachments on waterlogged land must be prepared, followed by action to make these areas encroachment-free. For cases involving land fraud, the DM emphasised the importance of rigorous investigation.
He said that reports received from subordinate officers must be thoroughly reviewed, with SDMs and Tehsildars providing their comments before forwarding them to higher authorities. The DM said that SDMs have sufficient power to take action in such matters and they should act against culprits immediately as per the law.
