The former chief minister and head of the campaign committee of Uttarakhand Congress Harish Rawat has demanded that the government should confer the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna to the deceased Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat. He said that the slogans of long live Bipin Rawat are emanating from everywhere and he had become a symbol of national security. “People had started looking at General Bipin Rawat as such a general and soldier who is a guarantee of their security. The media persons are asking how we can pay our homage to him,’’ he said. Rawat added that Bipin Rawat should be given Bharat Ratna and a special ceremony should be organised to give the award.
On Friday Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Harish Rawat, the in charge of Uttarakhand Congress Devendra Yadav, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal, Rajya Sabha MP Pradip Tamta visited the residence of CDS General Bipin Rawat in Delhi and paid floral tributes to General Rawat and his wife.
