Cong demands payment of compensation for Joshimath families

Saturday, 07 January 2023 | PNS | Dehradun

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that the State government should assess the loss being done by the land subsidence in Joshimath and provide compensation to the affected people. Interacting with the media persons at the State headquarters of the Congress party here on Friday, the PCC president said that the State government woke up from its slumber only when the local people started the agitation to save Joshimath and when the Congress leaders raised the issue. He said that the BJP which always takes about Sanatan Dharma and engages in the politics of polarisation has done nothing to save Joshimath where the famous Narsingh temple and seat of Adiguru Shankaracharya is situated. Mahara demanded that the State government should inform about its plan for relocation of the local people from Joshimath. “What is the roadmap of the Dhami government to save the Narsingh temple? The government should also disclose whether it has made any coordination committee to deal with the centre or not,’’ he said. The PCC president said that the former MLA from Badrinath Mahendra Bhandari who is the incumbent president of the Uttarakhand BJP has done nothing to address the issue of land subsidence in Joshimath.

Launching an attack on the BJP government for its effort to give communal colour to the issue of railway land encroachment in Vanbhoolpura area of Haldwani, Mahara said that a narrative was created which portrayed that the Congress is trying to save an area of Muslims. This is a dangerous and heinous attempt, he said.  Mahara said that the State government has set up many facilities, constricted schools, health centres and other things in the said land which railways claims to be its. He said that the Supreme Court has given a historic decision on the issue.

The vice president (organisation) Mathura Dutt Joshi, media in charge P K Agarwal, Garima Dasauni, Naveen Joshi, Anukriti Gusain and others were present on the occasion.
