Stop loot of public money by reducing excise duty on petrol, diesel – Gourav Vallabh
The spokesperson of All India Congress Committee (AICC), Gourav Vallabh has said that the Narendra Modi government should stop the loot of public money (Dhan) on the occasion of the festival of Dhanteras and demanded that it should reduce the price of petrol by at least Rs 25 per litre. Talking to the media persons at the Congress headquarters here on Monday,
Vallabh said the BJP government has looted more than Rs 23 lakh Crores from the public by arbitrarily increasing the excise duty on diesel and petrol. He said that in March 2017, petrol was priced at Rs 72 per litre which is now at Rs 105.33 which means that in the last four years and seven months a hike of 46 per cent has occurred in petrol. Similarly, he added, that the prices of diesel and cooking gas have witnessed an increase of 65 per cent and 121 per cent respectively in this period. He said that the prices of potato, tomato and onion have increased by 87 per cent, 100 per cent and 62 per cent in the vegetable market of Dehradun in the last one month.
On a sarcastic note, the Congress spokesperson said that apart from the industrial friends of PM Modi, the income of no other person has increased in the proportion at which the prices of essential items are increasing.
Vallabh said that the excise duty on the diesel has increased by a whopping 800 per cent in the last seven years. Giving figures he said that excise duty in diesel in the year 2013 was Rs three which is now Rs 32 per litre.
