The secretary of the state Congress, Swati Negi along with Congress activists submitted a complaint to superintendent of police (Rural) Jaya Baluni on Wednesday, against the operators of a social media page named ‘Vasooli Abhiyan Morcha’. The Congress alleged that the page had posted objectionable and misleading content targeting party leaders and herself.

A group of Congress activists reached the office of the senior superintendent of police and demanded an inquiry into the posts. “Political criticism is acceptable, but questioning a woman’s character and targeting her family is not acceptable,” Negi said, adding that the content had affected her personal and family reputation.

As per the complaint, the Congress had earlier tried to submit a complaint against the page operator on December 28, 2025. The workers alleged that no action had been taken as expected. They further said that the page had posted another video on February 28, 2026, targeting the Congress party and its leaders.

The Congress workers said that social media should not be used to defame people and hurt their dignity.  They demanded that police identify the people operating the account and take action under relevant provisions of the law.
