Cong flags blatant nepotism in National Games conduct

In latest news from Doon, with the ruling BJP still basking in the glory of the just-concluded 38th National Games, the opposition Congress has cast aspersions on the event, alleging that a few companies associated with the families of powerful BJP leaders and bureaucrats have been favoured while the State’s players who had brought medals and received awards have been kept out in the cold.
Speaking of this matter, the Congress veteran and the leader of the opposition in the Assembly Yashpal Arya said that the State government had practised blatant nepotism in the conduct of the games, favouring a few of the mighty people. He further said that the players from outside the State now playing for the State had been given primacy over the genuine players from the State. “It is a matter of great concern that these outsiders may in coming days monopolise the awards and jobs meant for sportspersons,” he said.
He further alleged that many of the prominent stadiums of the State had been kept away as venues for the National Games. He cited in particular the Ransi Stadium known as the highest stadium of Asia situated in Pauri district where not a single event had been held.
