The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that though BJP has registered victory in the States of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan the Congress party has got more votes than BJP in the Assembly elections held in the four States.
Interacting with the media persons at Rajiv Bhawan here on Monday the PCC president accepted that the results of the assembly election brought dismay to the party. He said that the Congress leaders were hoping that the party would come to power in at least three states. Mahara accepted the results of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh were not as per the expectation of the party. He however pointed out that the Congress got 4.90 crore votes in the four states while the BJP got 4.81 crore votes. Congress party got nine lakh more votes as compared to BJP. The difference between BJP and Congress in Rajasthan is only two per cent while it is 3.5 per cent in Chhattisgarh.
The PCC president said that a close analysis of the assembly result reflects that it is the real issues which got defeated in the elections. He said that the death of farmers in protests, public stripping of women in Manipur, increasing unemployment, insult of women wrestlers, rising prices, downfall in economy and increasing crime were not the issues during the election and it appears as if the freebees offered by the government won the election for BJP.
The Congress leader said that after the promise made by the Congress party that it will provide a cooking gas cylinder at Rs 500, the BJP offered the cylinder at Rs 450 in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. He demanded that the cooking gas cylinder should be provided at Rs 450 to people of Uttarakhand also.
The PCC president also questioned the role of the Election Commission (EC) which according to him remained biased towards the BJP. Terming the upcoming Global Investors Summit -2023 as a drama of the BJP government to hide its failures on fronts, Mahara demanded that the government should come out with a white paper on the Investors Summit 2018. He said that a claim of providing 60 lakh employment was made during that summit and lofty claims about investment were made by the government at that time.
The PCC president said that many industries have actually migrated out from the State due to pathetic infrastructure, erratic power supply and bad condition of roads. “Provide good infrastructure, security and a corruption free system and the industry will automatically come to the State,’’ he said.
