The Congress high command has struck a balancing act while picking up the leaders for the new Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) of Uttarakhand. The much awaited PCC announced on late Thursday night is a jumbo executive comprising 24 vice presidents, 36 general secretaries and 107 secretaries. Godavari Thapli has been named as the treasurer of the State unit.
The party has also set up five important committees to gear up the party cadre for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections.
All the senior leaders have been included in the executive committee which comprises of 41 leaders and includes PCC president Ganesh Godiyal, leader of opposition Yashpal Arya, former chief minister Harish Rawat, Pritam Singh, Qazi Nizamuddin, Prakash Joshi, Karan Mahara, Harak Singh Rawat and the incumbent MLAs, former cabinet ministers and other senior leaders.
Young Vaibhav Walia is a notable inclusion in this powerful committee. The party has set up a manifesto committee headed by Bhuwan Kapdi, a disciplinary committee headed by Vikram Singh Negi, Special Intensive Revision (SIR) committee headed by Manoj Rawat and chargesheet committee headed by former PCC president Karan Mahara.
In the PCC, the party has picked 24 vice presidents which include Hemesh Kharakwal, Vijay Saraswat, Suryakant Dhasmana, Dhirendra Pratap, Manoj Rawat and Rajeev Maharishi.
The political analysts point out that the party high command has balanced regional and caste equations in the PCC and selection of committee. Adequate representation is given to women and youth in the PCC by the party. In an attempt to placate different factions, the party high command which initially was in favour of a small executive ended up in giving a jumbo executive to the PCC president Ganesh Godiyal for the important battle of Vidhan Sabha elections of 2027.
