The workers of the Congress party held a demonstration on Friday in protest against what they termed as the pathetic law and order situation in the State. They also burned an effigy of the State government while protesting. Led by the president of the Mahanagar Congress Jaswinder Singh Gogi the party members assembled at the headquarters of the State Congress and walked to Astley Hall where they held a demonstration. Addressing the party workers, Gogi said that daylight robbery in the Reliance Jewels showroom exposes the law and order situation prevailing in the State and failure of the State government. He said that the robbery occurred in a place which is located in vicinity of the important offices of the capital on the State Foundation Day and at a time when the President of the country was in the city. Gogi said that the robbery shows that the Dhami government has failed in improving both the governance and law and order situation. He questioned what message the daylight robbery sends to investors at a time when the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is telling that a global investors summit will be held in the State.
The Congress leader said that Dehradun city is continuously suffering from neglect of the State government. The vice president of State Congress Surya Kant Dhasmana said that the people of the city suffered an onslaught of dengue due to which many lives were lost and the government was only engaged in hiding the deaths due to the vector borne disease. He said that the registry scam shocked the people and now a major robbery has occurred. Dhasmana said that the Congress party will not remain a mute spectator to these issues and will launch an agitation if the culprits are not arrested soon. Puran Singh Rawat, Manish Nagpal, Abhisek Tiwari and others were present on the occasion.
