Cong holds state-wide protest on price rise
Common man reeling under the onslaught of spiralling prices: Pritam Singh
In protest against the rising prices and the failure of the government to control them the Uttarakhand unit of the Congress party held protests in all district headquarters of the state on Wednesday. The party workers also burned the effigies of the government in these protests. In Dehradun the Congress leaders and workers assembled at the Rajiv Bhawan on the day and held a vehement protest against the government. The workers then marched to Astley hall where they consigned to flames an effigy of the state government. The party workers were also holding gas cylinders in the protest.
Addressing the party workers on the occasion, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh said that in all the elections held in recent past the BJP leaders had assured that the prices of all items would be brought down if it is voted to power but instead of going down the prices of everything have increased. He said that in the last 20 days, the price of cooking gas cylinders has increased by 100 rupees and the prices of diesel and petrol have become out of reach of the general public. The PCC president said that the BJP governments both at the centre and the states have failed miserably in controlling the prices and a result of which the general public is reeling under the spiralling prices.
Later talking to the media persons the PCC president said that in the elections of 2017, the price rise was the major election plank of the BJP but under the BJP’s rule the prices have skyrocketed. He said that the people of the state are waiting anxiously for the assembly elections of 2022 to throw the BJP out of power in Uttarakhand.
Former cabinet minister Dinesh Agarwal, Vice President Suryakant Dhasmana, general secretary organisation Vijay Saraswat, former MLA and chairman of SC cell Rajkumar, Mahanagar President Lal Chand Sharma, Garima Dassauni, Rajendra Shah, Mahesh Joshi and large number of Congress party leaders and workers attended the protest.
