Cong mayoral candidate Pokhriyal files nomination in MCD

The Congress candidate Virendra Pokhriyal filed his nomination paper for the position of mayor, Municipal Corporation of Dehradun on Monday. He filed his nomination papers with a large number of party workers and leaders. Pokhriyal was accompanied by the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara, the vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Suryakant Dhasmana, the president of Mahanagar Congress Jaswinder Singh Gogi and other senior leaders of the party.
Pokhriyal is a known face in the politics of the State. Apart from being a former president of the DAV PG College from 1993 to 1996, Pokhriyal actively participated in the statehood movement. He was arrested many times during the movement for the separate State of Uttarakhand. After the creation of Uttarakhand, the Congress party appointed him as the president of Garhwal division of its youth wing.
In the year 2007, he was appointed the district president of the Kisan Congress. He was made the chairperson of the Uttarakhand State housing corporation in 2013. Pokhriyal is also known for his active participation in the cooperative movement in the State.
