In latest news from Uttarakhand, the Congress veteran and the former chief minister Harish Rawat exuded confidence that his party was all set to come back to power in the State in the 2027 assembly election. While addressing media persons in Kichha in Udham Singh Nagar district, he said that organisational weaknesses exposed during the recent Lok Sabha elections were being addressed appropriately through revamping and inclusion of the youth.
Hitting out the BJP-helmed State government on anti-encroachment drive, Rawat said that it has been following dual policy to the detriment of the poor. “While the State government claims all encroachment of government land would be removed a section of the ruling party’s leaders are creating hindrance due to their vested interests. Besides, the BJP government cares a damn for the poor living in the slums. The Congress always throws its weight behind the poor- protecting them, helping them and empowering them- while the BJP remains indifferent to their plight,” he said.
Making a blistering attack on the BJP government on the law and order front, the veteran leader said that the law and order machinery has crumbled due to the blatant use of the police force for the ruling party’s sectarian interests. He also slammed the BJP government on what he called faulty road construction policy in the mountainous areas. “This ill-suited road construction policy in hills has been aggravating landslide threat. The Char Dham pilgrims are bearing the brunt of this policy. They are getting stuck up frequently due to incessant landslides in the hills,” Rawat said.
