Sunday, 31 March 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

In protest against the decision of the Income Tax department to freeze the accounts of the Congress party, a delegation of the Congress workers submitted a memorandum to the district magistrate on Saturday. In the memorandum directed to the President of India, the Congress said the incident shows that BJP wants to destroy democracy in the country by using IT and Enforcement Directorate (ED). The delegation of Congress workers was headed by Mahanagar president Jaswinder Singh Gogi. He said that the department should have waited till the end of the election even if there was any discrepancy which needed to be investigated. Gogi said that just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the IT department has served a notice of hefty penalty of Rs 18,00 crore on Congress party and has freezed the bank accounts of the party. This act of the government has given  a chance to the international organisations and some nations to comment on our internal matters which is defaming our democracy.

The state general secretary of Congress Godavri Thapli said that the tax terrorism and the politicisation of ED is pushing the country towards a dictatorship. She warned that the Congress workers would not remain silent on such heinous measures.
