Cong questions propriety of placing Supplementary Budget with Condolence motion
Party plans to raise corruption issue in a big way in assembly today
The Congress took strong exception to the government’s decision to place the supplementary budget on the day when the house participated in the condolence motion to pay tribute to Salt MLA Surendra Singh Jeena and four former members. The Manglaur MLA Qazi Nizamuddin told media persons outside the Vidhan Sabha that no other work is done on the day the condolence motion is tabled. He said that it was wrong on the part of the government to place the supplementary budget on the day. Qazi added that the Zero hour and question hour remained suspended on the day but the government placed the supplementary budget which is wrong. Terming the ministers immature, he said that the house missed the services of the former parliamentary affairs minister Prakash Pant on the day who would have never allowed such a mistake. The deputy leader of the Congress legislature party, Karan Mahra said that the government is running away from discussion in the house and is trying to cut short the assembly proceedings. “It is unfortunate that only nine sittings of the assembly would be held this year. It is mockery of the parliamentary proceedings. It is clearly mentioned in the rules that the house should sit for at least 60 days in a year,’’ he said. The Congress leader added that the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Indira Hridayesh and PCC President Pritam Singh who would participate in the meeting of the business advisory committee should demand extension of the winter session. He said that they should put pressure on the government to extend the session which should be of at least 10 days.
Mahra said that the Congress party would raise the issue of corruption emphatically on the second day of winter session. He said that the party would raise the issue of the District Development Authorities, plight of farmers, unemployment and price rise in Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday.
