The Congress has said that the dengue outbreak in Dehradun and other parts of the State has taken colossal proportions and measures taken by the government to combat the disease are inadequate. The party has said that the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami should immediately intervene to ensure that concrete steps are taken to prevent dengue, failing which the situation is likely to get out of control.
The chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress, Garima Dasauni said that she visited the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (Coronation) district hospital on Saturday. She said that pathetic conditions prevail in both these hospitals and patients have to wait for hours in long serpentine queues outside OPDs, registration counters and sample collection points. She said that more patients than their capacity are admitted in both these hospitals.
The GDMC is charging Rs 1,700 per day from the poor patients for admission in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) but the air conditioner and the fans of ICU are non- functional. Dasauni said that the dengue prevalence occurs during July to November but the control room for dengue was set up after a delay of two months.
She said that the admitted patients in both the government hospitals complained that doctors are not visiting the wards. Dasauni added that the health services are deteriorating but the senior officers are paying no heed. She requested that the CM should take cognisance of the dengue situation and direct authorities to take effective measures to control the situation.
