Mahara accuses BJP government of major scam in purchase of medical equipments and machines during Kumbh
The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president designate, Karan Mahara has demanded an independent inquiry headed by a retired justice of high court in the recruitment scam of the cooperative banks and resignation of the cabinet minister Dhan Singh Rawat till the process of the inquiry is completed. Interacting with the media persons here on Wednesday, he said that the inquiry in the scam should also cover the recruitment of officers in the cooperative banks during the time when the pandemic of Covid-19 was at its peak. He claimed that a private agency was hired to recruit officers and a written test was conducted in Noida. “The aspirants were asked to come to Noida just two days before the examination held during the peak of the pandemic. The candidates selected were in Noida days before the examination which clearly shows the corruption in the whole process,’’ he claimed. The Congress leader said that the class IV posts were abolished in the cooperative banks but the recruitment process was started by giving a different name to these posts. He said that though chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that an inquiry would be conducted, everyone knows the fate of such inquiries. “ If the CM is really serious then he should order an inquiry headed by a retired judge and ask the minister heading the department to resign,’’ he said.
Launching a frontal attack on the BJP government for being involved in a scam in the purchase of medical equipment during Haridwar Kumbh, the PCC president designate said that purchase of costly machines was done in gross violation of norms. Showing a blank purchase order having signatures of the senior officers, Mahara said that the swindling of crores of taxpayers money was done during the Kumbh of last year. He claimed that machines such as MRI and CT scan were purchased without tenders and approval of experts. Mahara added that old machines were repaired and purchased as new ones in the Kumbh. He said that though BJP asks people to boycott Chinese lamps during Diwali, its government in Uttarakhand purchased low quality Chinese equipment during Kumbh.
