Cong supports agitating statehood activists

Congress election campaign committee head and former chief minister Harish Rawat and the leader of opposition, Pritam Singh participated in the protest rally of statehood activists towards the chief minister’s residence here on Sunday. The two leaders extended their support to the nine demands being raised by the statehood activists.
Pradesh Congress Committee vice president and Chinhit Rajya Andolankari Sanyukt Samiti patron, Dhirendra Pratap said that the two leaders assured the protesting statehood activists that if the Congress is elected to govern Uttarakhand in the 2022 Assembly elections, it will work on the demands of the statehood activists. They supported their demand for reservation for statehood activists, identification of remaining activists, making Gairsain the permanent state capital and bringing about changes in the land law to make it more suitable to the requirements of Uttarakhand. Stating that the demands of the statehood activists will be fulfilled if the Congress is voted to office, Rawat said that the pensions of statehood activists should be increased and that this will be ensured by the Congress government. In his address, Singh said that this and other relevant issues of the State will be raised strongly by the Congress in the Vidhan Sabha which has been called to session from August 23.
Meanwhile, cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi sought time till 7 PM on Monday, stating that he will try to facilitate a meeting of the statehood activists with the chief minister.
Earlier, the statehood activists gathered at Dilaram Chowk and marched towards the CM’s residence while raising anti-government slogans. They were stopped by the police at the barricading in Hathibadkala.
