Congress all set to win Bageshwar by-election: Mahara

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that the Congress candidate is all set to win the by-election in Bageshwar. Interacting with the media persons at the Congress Bhawan here on Wednesday the PCC president said that the BJP is misusing the official machinery and is trying to intimidate the supporters of the Congress party but the workers of the Congress are prepared to meet the challenge. He said that the BJP has succeeded in pressuring some persons and they were forced to join the party but the general public has understood the designs of the party. Mahara, who has returned from Bageshwar after camping there for many days, said that the mood of the public is for a change in Bageshwar this time. He said that the people are fed up with the leadership of one family from the last 16 years and are now looking at Congress with hope.
The PCC president added that the issues of unemployment, increase in the price of the general commodities and corruption are figuring prominently in Bageshwar. He said that the women are agitated at the way the Ankita Bhandari murder case was handled and the efforts made to save the VIP involved in the crime. He said that women safety is a major issue in Bageshwar. Mahara said that the manner in which the daughter of the minister belonging to the area was able to get the job of a doctor despite getting only 13 marks in the examination is the talk point among the general public. Mahara said that the Congress candidate Basant Kumar secured more than 16,000 votes in the last assembly polls and the Congress has got more than 20,000 votes in the last three polls. If one adds all these votes then it is an easy victory for the Congress candidate Basant Kumar, he said.
