The Congress has alleged that the Public Works Department (PWD) is distributing the compensation of the land acquired by it for construction of a road in Kedarnath Assembly constituency which is a violation of model code of conduct (MCC) imposed in the area. In a letter written to the chief electoral officer, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that PWD is distributing compensation of land acquired by it for construction of a road in Lohara village of Guptkashi in Rudraprayag district. He said that MCC is enforced in the area in view of the Kedarnath by-election and in such a situation the distribution of compensation by PWD is misuse of the official machinery and blatant violation of MCC. He said that the Congress party has brought the issue to the notice of the district magistrate of Rudraprayag who also is the district electoral officer. He demanded that the compensation distribution should be immediately stopped.
Mahara said that strict action should be taken against the officers of PWD and the DM should be asked to ensure that all the departments are adhering to the norms of the MCC.
The PCC president claimed that earlier also the CM has asked the Anganwadi workers to campaign for the BJP candidate in his election speech but no action has so far been taken on the issue.
