Gunsola, Godiyal & Tamta to contest from Tehri, Garhwal & Almora seats respectively
The Congress party has declared Jot Singh Gunsola, Ganesh Godiyal and Pradeep Tamta as its candidates for Tehri, Garhwal and Almora- Pithoragarh (SC) seats respectively for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. After the approval of the central election committee (CEC), the apex body of the party for selecting the name of candidates of the election, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) released the names of candidates for three out of the five constituencies in the State on Tuesday.
In Tehri constituency the party has fielded Gunsola, a senior leader and former MLA. He will take on the formidable challenge of contesting against sitting MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah. In Garhwal where the BJP has not yet declared its candidate, the Congress party relied on the former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal. In Almora- Pithoragarh reserved seat the Congress has again shown faith in the former MP Pradeep Tamta who will take on the sitting MP Ajay Tamta. Interestingly, this will be the fourth consecutive electoral contest between the two Tamtas. The constituency was reserved for SC candidates in the year 2009 and in the election Pradeep Tamta of Congress defeated Ajay Tamta of BJP by a small margin of 7,000 votes. Ajay Tamta won from the seat in the years 2014 and 2019.
