Congress attempting to conceal its sin on women’s reservation, alleges BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged that the Congress is now trying to divert focus from its “sin” when it comes to women’s reservation. BJP State president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt said that the Congress has been exposed by its actions. The people are highly disappointed with the opposition’s objections and shamelessness under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership with the fact that it celebrated this. This is the reason why Congress leaders from Delhi and Dehradun are once again trying to spread confusion and divert focus, Bhatt alleged.

He said, “Instead of staging a dharna in front of the Vidhan Sabha on the issue of women’s reservation, they should have tried to convince their leadership because the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam was tabled to introduce reservation from 2029, which the opposition objected to. Who is the Congress trying to fool by demanding an unconstitutional procedure for women’s reservation separately in Uttarakhand? They are either unaware of constitutional procedure or are underestimating the intelligence of Uttarakhand’s public,” he said.

Bhatt said that the Congress is making an unconstitutional demand of reservation within reservation whereas the women’s reservation ordinance by the UPA government under the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh did not mention this. “The Congress and other opposition were earlier unanimous in implementing this law from 2029. According to the law passed in the past, census followed by delimitation was mandatory. Even then, including the caste based census would have made its completion before 2029 impossible. This is the reason why necessary amendments were made regarding women’s reservation and delimitation, which the opposition did not allow to be passed,” the BJP State president said.

Bhatt further said that the public has seen the opposition’s contradictory behaviour in the parliament compared to what its messengers from Delhi are now claiming. “The Congress is now spreading lies about the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam and the debate held on it in the parliament. The nation has clearly seen the opposition’s anti-women stance in the debate during the special parliamentary session. We find it sad that even the women MPs of the Congress and other opposition parties did not support the effort to empower women and placed partisan politics above it,” he said.

Responding to the Congress’ national spokeswoman’s comments on gender crimes, Bhatt termed them baseless. He said that swift and stern action is being taken in every case of crime against women, adding that the public is satisfied with it. However, in States under the Congress, such crimes are not even registered. Women leaders of the Congress have left the party alleging exploitation, said Bhatt.
