Reacting sharply to a statement given by the former MLA of BJP Harbhajan Singh Cheema on crime against women, the chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni has said that Cheema should tender an apology for denigrating the women. Interacting with the mediapersons at the headquarters of the Congress party on Friday, Dasauni said that Cheema has exposed the real character and culture of BJP. She said that most of the incidents of crime against women in the State are against minor girls and in such a situation Cheema should tell as to which types of clothes they should wear to escape from the sexual offences. Dasauni said that instead of holding women responsible for the crimes against them Cheema should have expressed concern on increasing cases of crime against women. He should have held the police, administration and the Dhami government accountable for the increase in heinous crimes in the State. The veteran leader should have taught a lesson of morality to the youth by stating that the women are not mere objects but are mothers, sisters and daughters, she said.
Dasauni said that instead of cornering the State government for its failures, Cheema has blamed women’s attire for the crime against them which is highly deplorable. She said that Cheema should seek apology for his remark and the BJP should also make its position clear on the issue.
Dasauni said that the incident of sexual harassment with the women of Madhya Pradesh who had come for Kedarnath darhsan by the officers of Police is very unfortunate.
