The Uttarakhand Congress has strongly condemned the arrest of the president of the Uttarakhand Berozgar Sangh, Bobby Panwar by the police in Bageshwar on Friday. Panwar and his associates were arrested by the Police from near the Bagnath temple. The Leader of Opposition (LoP) Yashpal Arya criticised the BJP government for the arrests and said that it is adopting a dictatorial attitude.
“Panwar and his associates of the Berozgar Sangh were arrested by the police without any reason. It shows that democracy is being murdered in the State,’’ he said. Arya said that everyone has the freedom to express thoughts in a democracy. He said that it appears that the BJP government in the State is scared of the youths.
“I strongly condemn this oppressive and illegal action of the administration. This act shows that the BJP has accepted its defeat in the Bageshwar by-election,’’ Arya said.
The chief spokesperson of the Uttarakhand Congress, Garmina Dasauni claimed that supporters of Bajrang Dal were seen along with the STF which arrested Panwar and his friends in Bageshwar. She said that Panwar was arrested from the Bagnath temple and was not allowed Darshan of the deity by the police. Dasauni said that Panwar’s arrest shows the government’s desperation. She demanded that the police should clarify the grounds on which Panwar was arrested. The arrests prove that the BJP is on a slippery ground in the Bageshwar by-election, she said.
The State vice president of Congress Mathura Dutt Joshi alleged that like it did in the Champawat by-election, the BJP government is misusing official machinery in Bageshwar also. He said that Panwar is the symbol of the struggle of the unemployed in the State.
