Congress conducts havan for stuck workers

Confused govt is confounding people: Mahara

Tuesday, 21 November 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

In latest news from Dehradun, with the fate of 41 trapped workers inside the partially caved-in tunnel at Silkyara hanging in balance despite all-out efforts being made to evacuate them for the past nine days, the State Congress conducted a havan at the Panchayat Bhavan Mandir here for their safe evacuation. However, at the same time, the Opposition party leaders took potshot at the Centre and the State government for the sluggishness of the rescue operation.  The State Congress president Karan Mahara said that the government, confused itself, has been confounding the people at large on the ongoing rescue works. “Things inside the caved-in tunnel being still murky, my party has conducted the havan and prayed to God to give the bungling government good sense so that they do the right things and the lives of so many people are saved,” he said. He further said that the varied numbers of the trapped workers sent by different agencies involved in the same rescue operation clearly revealed the confusion set into the government. “However, post-Nitin Gadkari’s visit and stock-taking, things have looked up a little and yet the sluggish pace of the rescue work raises serious questions on the efficacy of the  big claims being made by the government,” the Congress leader said. He further said: “It is difficult to gauge the mental agony of the long-trapped workers inside an airless tunnel living on scanty food for nine days,” he added.
