The State spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Vikas Bhagat has accused the Congress of spreading rumours and causing confusion about the ongoing rescue operation in Uttarkashi’s Silkyara tunnel for petty political gain. He said that Congress leaders are working to break the morale of the officers and workers working there to rescue victims rather than encouraging them. He said that Congress should stop opportunistic politics on the Silkyara tunnel accident. Their leaders are thinking that such a big incident has occurred in the State and they must utilise this opportunity to tarnish the image of the chief minister Pushkar Dhami and his government. Bhagat claimed that the flaws Congress is finding in making the railway tunnel and other projects are just out of jealousy of the Rishikesh- Karnprayag Railway Project as their government could not do such development works in the State in the past. He alleged that Congress is more invested in bashing the government rather than understanding how the rescue operation is being carried out in Uttarkashi. They do not want the State to develop just to bash the BJP led government. He alleged that Congress is blindly bashing the government in the name of finding faults in the rescue operation and development works without having proper information just to tarnish the image of the government among the public for political gain. He also questioned why Congress never worked on the Rishikesh -Karnprayag railway line since independence and when the government is now working on it, why are they making it a political issue rather than cooperating in the State’s development. This is not the time to be opportunistic and Congress should think about public welfare first, he added.
