Congress cries foul on house arrest of its MLA

The Uttarakhand unit of Congress party has strongly deplored the police action against the party MLA Sumit Hridayesh. On Monday the Congress MLA from Haldwani was put under house arrest after he protested against an anti encroachment drive in Haldwani.

Senior Congress leader and MLA from Chakrata, Pritam Singh said that the state administration was engaging in exploitation of the people in the name of anti encroachment drive and when the Congress MLA tried to meet the victims, the administration put him under house arrest. He said that the administration acted against Hridayesh at the behest of the government. Accusing the government of using police to suppress the voice of opposition and exploit the people using repressive measures Pritam Singh said the Congress party strongly deplores the action against Hridayesh. Former secretary of Uttarakhand Congress Mahesh Joshi said that the house arrest of Hridayesh is an insult to the democracy. He said the people of Haldwani have elected Hridayesh their representative so that he can stand with them at the time of need.
