Thursday, 22 AUGUST 2024 | PNS | BHARADISAIN
The Congress MLAs strongly opposed the plan to hold the monsoon session of Vidhan Sabha for only three days. The leader of opposition (LoP) in the State Assembly Yashpal Arya told The Pioneer in Bharadisain on the opening day or the Monsoon session on Wednesday that the government should extend the duration of the monsoon session. He said that, according to the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha work procedure rules, the Vidhan Sabha should have at least 60 sittings in a year.He alleged that for the past many years, the Vidhan Sabha sessions have been having less than 15 sittings in a year.
The LoP said that every time the issue of less sittings of Vidhan Sabha is raised the government gives a ridiculous argument of having less business for the functioning of the house. He said that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure business in the house. Arya suggested that the government should redesign all the existing laws which were borrowed from Uttar Pradesh as per the needs of Uttarakhand.
Arya however added that the Congress will make best use of every second available in the House and will corner the government in the house on the burning issues of the state and try to make it accountable.
The Manglaur MLA Qazi Nizamuddin said that the members have placed more than 500 questions in the Assembly but it will not be possible for the speaker to take up all the questions due to the short period of the Assembly Session.
The Jaspur MLA Adesh Chauhan also expressed concern at the tendency of the State government to shy away from facing the house
