Vaccinate at least one crore people in a day- Pritam

Criticising the Union and state governments for shortage of vaccines, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh has said people should be vaccinated free of cost and the vaccination drive should be accelerated. Addressing the media persons at the headquarters of Uttarakhand Congress here on Friday the PCC president said that the Union government is responsible for severe shortage of vaccines in the country. He said that in order to become ‘ Vishwa Guru’, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi exported 6.63 crore doses of vaccines to other countries which has resulted in shortage of vaccines in the country. Singh also questioned different rates at which the manufacturers are providing vaccines. “The Serum Institute of India is providing its Covishield at Rs 150 to the union government, Rs 300 to state governments and Rs 600 to the private hospitals while Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin is available at Rs 150, 600 and 1200 to Union government, state governments and private hospitals respectively. This clearly shows that the government is standing with the profit seekers. Even the Supreme Court has reprimanded the government on it,’’ he said.

The PCC President said that the party has sent a memorandum to the President of India in which a demand for free vaccines to all citizens was made. He said that the government should vaccinate at least one crore people in a day in order to protect the population from the pandemic.

The PCC president that the Uttarakhand government with much fanfare had promised free vaccination for 18-44 year age population but this claim has fallen flat as vaccines are not available. He said that due to non availability of vaccines people are forced to pay for vaccines in private hospitals. Singh also targeted the state government for providing home isolation kits to the Covid-19 patients sans the oximeters and thermometers. He said that the government has declared Black Fungus an epidemic but has made no arrangements to tackle the disease.
