Congress demands longer budget session

PNS | DEHRADUN

The Congress has demanded that the State government should increase the duration of the budget session of the Vidhan Sabha.

The leader of opposition Yashpal Arya said that the government does not want to face the house and so it has deliberately kept the duration of the session short. He also questioned the State government for not holding sessions on the Mondays. Arya said that for the last three years the session is not being held on Mondays. It usually starts on Tuesday and ends on Friday.  Arya said that Monday is reserved for the departments headed by the chief minister and in such a situation questions related to many departments headed by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami are not taken by the Vidhan Sabha secretariat.

Arya added that by convening the budget session of Vidhan Sabha in Dehradun the State government has backtracked on its promise on holding the budget session in the summer capital Gairsain.

He said that the Congress members will raise the issues of installation of smart meters by UPCL, prevailing corruption in government, deteriorating law and order situation and stringent land laws during the session.

Former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president and Chakrata MLA Pritam Singh said that during the last session of Vidhan Sabha, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had said that the budget session will be held in Gairsain but the government has convened the session in Dehradun. Singh claimed that the CM had also said that the budget session will be of 10 days duration. He demanded that the government should ensure that the duration of the budget session is at least 10 days so that the members get a chance to raise the important issues of public interest. Singh said that the Congress members will corner the government on a number of issues during the session.
