Congress demands voting rights for employees on election duty

The Uttarakhand Congress has alleged that the employees deployed in the election duty are being deprived of their right to vote in the elections of the Urban Local Bodies in the State. In a letter to the State election commissioner, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that the process of the elections in the ULBs of the State are currently underway in the State and being the citizens the employees drawn up for election duty have the constitutional right to vote.
He said that the employees should be given the right to exercise their franchise by means of the postal ballots.
The PCC president expressed surprise over the inputs that the no arrangement for ballot papers has been made for the employees drawn in for the election duty. He said depriving the employees of their right is a violation of their constitutional right and puts up a question mark over the functioning of the State Election Commission.
Mahara demanded that the State election commissioner should make arrangements of voting by postal ballots for the employees deployed for election duty.
