The State unit of Congress party has demanded that the Pushkar Singh Dhami government should bring out a white paper on land laws.
Interacting with the media persons at the Congress headquarters here on Saturday the vice president of State Congress Suryakant Dhasmana said that the government headed by chief minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari in the year 2003 amended the section 154 of the Uttar Pradesh (Uttarakhand) Zamindari Abolition and Land Management Act 1950 which had a provision that the outsiders cannot purchase more than 500 square metre land for residential purpose in the State. Later the BJP government of BC Khanduri reduced this limit to 250 square metres.
Dhasmana said that the Trivendra Singh Rawat government fiddled with this law and made it ineffective and also removed the maximum limit of 12.5 acre in mountainous areas for outsiders.
He said that the final and mortal blow to this law was delivered by Pushkar Singh Dhami government in 2022 when the provision of government permission for outsiders ti purchase land in Uttarakhand was also removed. Dhasmana claimed that successive BJP governments have rendered the land law enacted by ND Tiwari government ineffective, due to which rich people from outside the State purchased large chunks of land in Uttarakhand from 2018 to 2024.
He said that the Dhami government should reestablish the provisions of the land law during Tiwari government and come out with a white paper informing the number of outsiders who purchased land in the State.
