Reacting sharply to the statements of the Congress leaders, the state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Congress of engaging in irresponsible politics over the Joshimath issue. The media incharge of the state BJP, Manvir Singh Chauhan said that the entire machinery of the State government is geared up to provide relief to the affected families in Joshimath. He said that work for rehabilitation is going on and the secretary of the chief minister and the Garhwal commissioner are camping in Joshimath. Chauhan said that the Congress leaders are competing with one another to reach Joshimath and its leaders are focussing on tweets of Rahul Gandhi. He said that the high level meeting in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is not visible to Congress leaders and they are deliberating ignoring the high level meetings chaired by the Chief Minister (CM) on Joshimath. Chauhan said the CM is directly monitoring things and a team of scientists is camping in the city to find reasons for the land subsidence but the Congress is turning a blind’s eye on all this.
The spokesperson of state BJP, Suresh Joshi said that the Congress leaders are targeting the State government on the NTPC power project but the fact is Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and inauguration of the project were done during the Congress government. He said that most of the under construction power projects were approved during Congress rule. Joshi said that the Union and the State governments are standing with the people of Joshimath and the Congress and other parties should provide positive support to the government. He blamed the Congress leaders for spreading misleading information in an attempt to gain political mileage from the Joshimath disaster.
