Though the Congress candidates have lost to their BJP rivals in all the five seats of Uttarakhand, the better performance of the party in the country has made the Congressmen happy. The party is finding solace in the fact that the victory margin of BJP candidates in all the constituencies barring Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar constituency has decreased considerably. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara told The Pioneer that the educated class and youngsters have voted for the Congress party in the Lok Sabha elections. He said that the issues of unemployment, Agnipath scheme, theft of gold in Kedarnath and Ankita Bhandari murder case raised by the Congress party in the elections proved effective, due to which the party candidates were able to reduce the margin of victory in Garhwal and Haridwar LS constituencies by more than 1.5 lakh as compared to the LS elections of 2019. Similarly the Congress candidates in Tehri and Almora performed better than in the last LS elections.
Mahara said that the hard work done by Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has reflected in the election results as the tally of Congress in the country has doubled compared to the previous LS polls.
He expressed confidence that the INDIA bloc will be able to form the next government at the Centre. He claimed that many of the smaller parties are in contact with alliance leaders as no one wants Narendra Modi to become the PM of the country again because of his dictatorial attitude.
