The in charge of Uttarakhand Congress Devendra Yadav has said that the visit of general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Priyanka Gandhi has given a big boost to the campaign of the party in Uttarakhand. Interacting with The Pioneer at the state headquarters of the Congress here on Thursday he said that more than 50,000 party workers and supporters had attended the virtual rally addressed by Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday. He said that the former president of Congress, Rahul Gandhi is also visiting the state soon and his entry would further boost the confidence of the party workers. Asserting that the Congress is headed for a landslide victory in the upcoming elections Yadav said that the BJP will need only an SUV to carry its MLAs after elections. He said that the Congress is contesting the elections with a very good plan and strategy. On the question of Congress party’s focus on women in its election manifesto Yadav said that the kitchen is the first place where the increasing prices hit and this is the reason why the Congress has promised that it will provide cooking gas cylinder at Rs 500. On the question- why the Congress has given tickets to only four women candidates in the assembly elections ? Yadav said that only 18 women had applied for the tickets. “Winabilty is a big factor in distribution of party tickets. We would now focus on strengthening the women leadership in our party,’’ he said.
On the controversy regarding the Muslim university issue and the allegation of BJP that Congress promotes Muslim appeasement, Yadav said that BJP has left with no issue and it is bereft of the list of works done by it. In such a situation BJP is back to playing communal politics.
