The Uttarakhand Congress has accused the BJP government of the State of showing an apathetic attitude towards the Sanskrit colleges of the state. In a statement the spokesperson of the State Congress Sheeshpal Singh Bisht said that the BJP government which engages in the politics of Hindutva is planning to close the Sanskrit colleges in the state. He said that the BJP should know that Sanskrit is at the very base of Hinduism. Bisht said that on October 16, the secretary of Sanskrit education directed the director of the department that the Sanskrit colleges will not use ‘college’ after their name and will not offer graduate courses to the students. These colleges will now be able to conduct only the Poorva Madhyama and Uttar Madhyama courses. The government has also ordered the Sanskrit colleges to change their signboards, he said.
The Congress leader said that the Sanskrit colleges are not working at the mercy of the government and added that some of these colleges were established even before the country got independence. He said that all these colleges follow the norms and guidelines of the government. These colleges have got the necessary recognition from the government and the appointment of teachers is also done as per the norms of the government, he said. The syllabus and curriculum of these schools are also approved by the government.
Bisht claimed that the inspection of these colleges was done by the four panels of the government and all these colleges fulfill the norms of University Grants Commission (UGC). He said that the dictatorial attitude of the government has put the future of the students of these colleges in jeopardy. Bisht said that the Sanskrit college teachers association and management are protesting against the order of the government.
He said that the Congress party demands that the government should take back its decision.
