Congress holds discussion on Kedarnath bypoll candidate in Delhi

The State in-charge of the Congress, Kumari Selja chaired a meeting of the observers and senior leaders of Uttarakhand in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss the name of the party candidate for Kedarnath Assembly by-election. The meeting was attended by the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara, the leader of opposition (LoP) in the State Assembly Yashpal Arya, former PCC president and member of central election committee of Congress Pritam Singh and co in-charge of the State Congress Pargat Singh. The senior observer Ganesh Godiyal and observers Bhuwan Kapdi, Lakhpat Butola and Virendra Jaati also attended the meeting.
Discussions were held on the report of the observers and probable candidates in the meeting. It is learnt that the Congress party high command has also summoned the members of the State coordination committee of the party. A meeting of the party high command is likely to be held with the senior leaders of Uttarakhand Congress and the members of the coordination committee on Saturday in which a final decision on the name of the candidate is likely to be taken.
Many leaders have staked their claim for the party ticket from Kedarnath. The observers have sent a panel of 13 names to the party’s State in-charge Kumari Selja.
Former MLA Manoj Rawat, former cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat and the president of the district Congress committee of Rudraprayag, Kunwar Sajwan are key contenders for the party ticket in Kedarnath.
The filing of nomination papers for the by-election started on October 22. The last date of filing of nomination papers is October 29 and the last date for withdrawal of the nomination papers is November 4. The voting will be held on November 20 and the counting of votes will be done on November 23.
