Congress indulging in drama after repeatedly crushing constitution: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party has said that after imposing the emergency on the nation and President’s rule 91 times, the Congress is now indulging in a drama in the name of saving the constitution and democracy. The BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt questioned how the Congress wants to save the constitution by taking to the roads to demand constitutional rights after opposing judicial and constitutional decisions and insulting the OBC community.
Reacting to the Samvidhan Bachao Andolan started by the Congress, Bhatt said that the fact is that the Congress does not have any moral right to comment on constitutional decorum. He said, “In 1975 the Congress had murdered democracy by imposing emergency in the nation. Two years ago Rahul Gandhi had publicly acknowledged this error. It is the Congress party which imposed the President’s rule in Punjab within four months of the results of the first election in independent India.
Later, this very party imposed President’s rule a record 91 times in the nation and killed democracy in various States. It is unfortunate that during the term of the UPA government in the centre under the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi had torn the Centre’s ordinance publically to build his own image while shredding constitutional decorum. It is due to the ordinance not coming into existence that Rahul Gandhi has lost his membership so early now. The Congress has enacted a law in the parliament against a Supreme Court ruling so that a woman from the minority community- Shah Bano could be deprived of her rights. The Congress has a bad record when it comes to democratic and constitutional decorum. Such a party undertaking a movement to save the constitution is laughable.”
Instead of seeking an apology, the Congress considers insulting the OBC community its constitutional right and has taken to the roads which is akin to adding insult to injury, said the BJP State president.
