In a jolt for the Congress party in Haridwar Lok Sabha constituency former vice president of Congress SP Singh Engineer joined BJP on Wednesday with his supporters. Engineer is a prominent leader of the Congress party in Haridwar district and has even contested an Assembly election in the past.
He was welcomed into BJP by the State president of the party Mahendra Bhatt. Speaking on the occasion, Bhatt said that the BJP candidates are poised to win in all the five LS seats by margins of more than five lakh votes. Assuring the newly inducted leaders, Bhatt said that they will be given respect in the party.
Addressing the workers, SP Singh Engineer said that impressed by the works of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, he has taken the membership of BJP. The vice president of OBC front of Congress Ashok Upadhyaya, Vijendra Chauhan, Somwati and other leaders also joined BJP on the occasion.
