LoP Arya demands white paper on economy of the country
The leader of opposition (LoP) in the State Assembly, Yashpal Arya has said that another demonetisation decision of the Narendra Modi led government has proved that the BJP government is not clear in its policies. He said that the general public wants to know as to why the government introduced the currency in Rs 2,000 denomination and why it is being withdrawn now.
He said that the BJP government takes such surprising decisions to divert the attention of the people from the failure of the government and burning issues. Arya demanded that the government should bring a white paper on the economy so that the effects of demonetisation are shown to everyone. “All the tall claims made by PM Modi during demonetisation done in November 2016 are proving to be hollow. At that time, the PM had taken out the currency notes of Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 from circulation, claiming that his decision would root out black money and terrorism from the country. However the data showed that the opposite of what the PM has claimed has happened and black money has increased in the country in these years,’’ he said.
Arya added that a report of the RBI showed that almost all the currency notes which were in circulation in the country at that time were returned to the banks.
He added that by demonetising the Rs 2,000 currency note at a time when summer is at its peak in the country, the BJP government wants the general public to stand in long queues outside banks.
