Congress maintains its stand on Jihad

Friday, 28 MARCH 2025 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Defending her statement on Jihad which had evoked sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party, the chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni said that she stands by what she had said.  Dasauni said that in her comment, she had explained the real meaning of Jihad, which is revolution, change and struggle. “Jihad is an appeal made to the people for a positive change. One who spits in the food is a criminal not Jihadi. A person who is involved in encroachment of land is criminal and not a Jihadi. Madarsas are the places where both modern and religious education is being imparted. People such as Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and former union minister of BJP Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi have studied in Madrasa,’’ she said.

The Congress leader said that she stands firmly about what she said and the meaning of Jihad will not change by its use of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

It is pertinent to mention here that CM Dhami is consistently mentioning the resolve of his government to act against what he terms ‘spit, land and love Jihad’.
