The problems of the forest minister Subodh Uniyal seem to be increasing with the Uttarakhand Congress submitting written complaints to the Supreme Court (SC) and High Court (HC) on the alleged derogatory comments made by the minister against the HC. The chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Mahara Dasauni has written letters to the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice DY Chandrachud, acting Chief Justice of Nainital HC, Justice Manoj Tiwari and registrar generals of SC and Uttarakhand HC. In the letter she said that in a recent telephonic conversation with the BJP MLA from Bhimtal Ram Singh Kaida, the forest minister Subodh Uniyal used derogatory language against the HC. She said that the MLA had called the minister regarding the menace and havoc created by the wild animals in the mountainous areas of Uttarakhand. Dasauni said that the minister was on speaker phone and the locals gathered around the MLA could hear him loud and clear. “The minister rather than giving advice to MLA cited a judgement by the HC for not killing the wild animals and made a very derogatory and abusive comment for the honourable HC,’’ She said.
The Congress leader requested that the court take a Suo Moto cognizance of the issue as it affects the dignity of the constitutional courts of the country and the rule of law. She also requested that the court direct the DGP of Uttarakhand to preserve and confiscate the device from which the video is recorded and to initiate Suo Moto contempt of court proceedings against the minister.
