Pradesh Congress Committee president Karan Mahra has expressed grief at the death of builder Satendra Singh Sahni who committed suicide in Dehradun on Friday. Demanding a high level inquiry in the case, Mahra said that the government is aware of who is behind the suicide because in his suicide note Sahni has named the influential people who harassed him and pushed him to take the extreme step. It now remains to be seen how the police conduct an impartial investigation, act against the guilty and reach the others involved who are presently in the shadows. Mahra said that it is being alleged that other influential persons and senior officers are also involved in this case. Sahni had complained about his matter to these persons before he committed suicide. The PCC chief questioned why timely action was not taken on the builder’s complaint. Stating that Sahni had written “save my family” in his suicide note, Mahra said that this means that his family is at risk. He questioned what steps the police have taken to provide security to the Sahni family. Mahra said, “The government should conduct a high level probe into who is protecting Ajay Gupta and Anil Gupta who are accused of abetting Sahni’s suicide. The Gupta brothers have been wanted in South Africa and may be involved in various other crimes too. Their activities in the past have also been suspicious. The Gupta brothers have considerable reach in political circles. The government is aware of their past activities too. Despite this, neither the Central government nor the State government have taken any action, which gives one an idea of their political reach,” the PCC chief said.
He further said that the Congress has been consistently questioning the law and order situation in the State but the government has remained apathetic. He alleged that chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and his team have become insensitive as exemplified in Sahni’s case wherein he committed suicide after no action was taken despite him informing the police and administration.
