Responding to allegations levelled by Congress leader Bhuwan Kapdi, the Bharatiya Janata Party has claimed that the allegations are baseless and motivated by the interests of the mining mafia. BJP State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said that the government is going to systematically collect the royalty and dead rent from mining leases for sub minerals in rivers for which there is provision in the rules. With this, the Rs 100 crore being collected so far will increase to more than Rs 400 crore. This will also help in stopping illegal mining. Sub minerals will be supplied to the public and executing agencies at low rates. Such a system is in place in various States including Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, he said. “This will trouble those involved in illegal mining and stop the theft of sub minerals, which seems to be bothering the Congress. The Congress leaders are speaking the language of the mining mafia. In this system the role of the GMVN, KMVN and Forest department will remain as it was in the past. Uttarakhand residents will be able to apply for mining leases upto five hectares in area and about 99 per cent of the mining leases available for mining are five hectare in area. The Congress allegation about the land in Rudrapur is also wrong and stems from lack of correct information,” Chauhan said. He said that Congress leaders are trying to spread propaganda due to lack of information or in an intentional manner. The government has also come down hard on the mafia involved in the recruitment scam. The Congress needs to adopt a positive view as the people are repeatedly rejecting it due to its negative attitude, Chauhan added.
