The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused the Congress of spreading lies regarding gender crimes and corruption for political gains. The BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt said that the State government under chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has a strict zero tolerance policy on both these issues and is ensuring stern action without bias against those guilty of these offences.
In a statement issued to the media, Bhatt averred that the Dhami government is doing a good job in maintaining law and order. “Strict action has been taken in all the cases of crimes against women and corruption which have been revealed so far. The government and party organisation have taken swift and strict action against the accused in the Haridwar case which the Congress is citing,” he said referring to the gangrape and murder of a girl. Apart from being arrested, the accused was also expelled from the party. Bhatt assured that the BJP government is committed to ensuring the strictest punishment to the accused as per the legal process without any bias. “Like other parties, our government doesn’t pursue legal action on the basis of aspects like political clout and connections. We have a clean track record on this issue. Whether the accused be from our party or another party, whether he be well connected, such people are awaiting their punishment behind bars. Further, the Dhami government has taken swift action in all the corruption cases which have come to the fore so far. Since the creation of Uttarakhand, the maximum-63 corrupt officials and employees have been sent behind bars,” the BJP State president said.
Taking a dig at the Congress, he said that the general public and the courts are satisfied with the action being taken against criminals but the Congress is not satisfied. “This is because the aim of the Congress is to satisfy its political hunger by making noise on such sensitive issues. In the past too, the Congress has tried to score political points by spreading lies and confusion on unfortunate and sensitive cases. In response, the people have totally rejected the Congress in 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections, 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the Haridwar Panchayat election. Despite this, the Congress is still conspiring to defame the BJP government at the cost of risking the State’s image. The Congress never saw gaps in its government in Rajasthan which tops the nation in crimes against women. The party’s government failed to get justice for its own leader whose daughter was murdered in Karnataka,” Bhatt added.
