Congress starts deliberation for selecting Badrinath candidate

The observers appointed by the Congress party for selecting candidate for upcoming Assembly by election of Badrinath held meetings with party workers and leaders in Gopeshwar town of Chamoli district on Friday. The chief observer of Congress and the Pratapnagar MLA Vikram Singh Negi and the observer Mahendra Singh Negi also held discussions with the party leaders who have staked their claim for the party ticket. It is learnt that Lakhpat Butola, Prakash Rawat, Kamal Raturi, Kamal Singh Rawat, Acharya Nareshanand, Madhvi Sati, Devendra Pharswan, Gaurav and Sandeep Jhinkwan have staked their claim for party’s ticket from Badrinath.
Based on the report of observers, the party will prepare a panel of three names and send it to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) which will take a final decision.
While the Congress party is mulling over the names of its candidate, the BJP has announced the name of former MLA Rajendra Singh Bhandari from Badrinath. In Manglaur the Congress will field former MLA Qazi Nizamuddin though the party has not officially announced his name. The last date for the filing of the nomination papers for the two by elections for the State Assembly is June 21 while polling will be held on July 10
