Yadav to be present when Mahara assumes charge as PCC president & Arya assumes charge as leader of opposition
The Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and party in-charge of Uttarakhand, Devendra Yadav will arrive in Dehradun on Sunday on a two-day visit. He will be present when the newly appointed Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara formally assumes charge on Sunday. Later, on the next day he will also be present when the newly appointed leader of opposition Yashpal Arya assumes charge at his official cabin in the VidhanSabha. Yadav’s visit comes at a time when various MLAs of the party have openly raised questions regarding his role and the decisions taken recently by the party’s central leadership. The appointments of the PCC president, leader of opposition and deputy leader of opposition last Sunday sparked off a series of questions and allegations from some leaders of the party.
According to information provided by the party, Yadav will arrive in Dehradun on Sunday morning to attend the programme being held at Congress Bhawan at 1 PM wherein Karan Mahara will formally assume charge as the PCC president. Later, on Monday, the party’s state in-charge will be in VidhanSabha at 11 AM when Yashpal Arya will formally assume charge as the leader of opposition in his cabin in the VidhanSabha building.
It is pertinent to mention here that Yadav’s visit comes at a time when a number of MLAs including the former leader of opposition and Chakrata MLA Pritam Singh, Dharchula MLA Harish Dhami and Dwarahat MLA Madan Singh Bisht have openly questioned the views and decisions of the party’s central leadership and the Congress state in-charge. The Dharchula MLA has openly blamed Yadav for the party’s electoral defeat and questioned his statement regarding the new appointments being made on the basis of merit. Senior party leader Pritam Singh had also questioned talk of factionalism allegedly fueled by him and had offered to resign from the Assembly if the party undertook a probe and found the allegations to be true. A group of MLAs and former MLAs of the Congress also held a meeting in the Dehradun residence of the Dwarahat MLA on Friday. Meanwhile, responding earlier to media queries regarding the dissent in the Congress, senior Congress leader and former chief minister Harish Rawat had stated that it is natural for party leaders to express their views after an unprecedented electoral defeat. He had stated that the situation in the party is not alarming.
