Terming the protest by the Congress following the Chamoli disaster as insensitive, the Bharatiya Janata Party has stated that the Congress views disasters as political opportunities. This is the time to support the victims and the bereaved and the Congress needs to exercise patience at this time, the BJP stated.
Interacting with the media, the BJP State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said that the deaths caused by electrocution in Chamoli have resulted in an atmosphere of grief across the State. “This is the time to wipe the tears of the bereaved family members and people are doing this. People have gathered in the homes of the bereaved families to pay their condolences and the entire State is with these families in their hour of grief. However, the Congress needs to consider where it stands at this time. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt met the affected family members and assured them of all possible assistance. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered and the report has been sought in a week.”
Chauhan further said that at this time when the affected families are mourning their loss, the Congress is focusing on scoring political brownie points. Claiming that all the steps taken by the government so far are satisfactory, he said that the Congress leaders should observe patience. It would have been better if the Congress were seen along with their workers sharing in the grief of the affected families, Chauhan added. He further alleged that baseless allegations are being levelled without technical knowledge and practical probe report just for political gains.
